Taiwan

I just got back from a week in beautiful Taiwan. To be honest I wasn't particularly looking forward to this trip because I saw it as just another destination I wanted to tick off my travel list. I didn't expect to like this place as much as I do now. After my first day in Taipei I felt very safe even though I was just by myself and I didn't know anyone there. In Hualien I went on a tour with a guide who didn't speak any English and to this day I can't read a single Chinese character. But we got along and even shared some jokes through gestures and facial expressions. I'm thankful to all those strangers who helped me when I seemed lost. In the end I never got lost because there was always someone to get me back on track. It's surprising how comfortable one can feel outside one's comfort zone.

  2. Looks like you had a lovely trip to Taiwan! It's always great when you can feel a sense of comfort when traveling alone. My husband and I both lived in Taiwan as children and we really need to go back to visit his family.

Your photos are also so cool and tell a story all by themselves. You should turn them in to a book! I am bringing my wide angle lens to Paris and hope to get better travel shots this time around!

  21. Anouk,
You should pitch all these pictures to a travel photography story about Taiwan. They are awesome! So glad you liked it there. Taiwan was my first trip to an Asian country so many years ago and I had the same impressions then about the people being so friendly and helpful and it being easy to navigate as a lone traveler.

Glad that you also got some nature shots in there too!
