KOBLENZ

Some pics from Sunday's day trip to Koblenz, the German city where the Mosel and Rhine rivers merge. Right after our arrival, K and I had lunch at Restaurant im Pegelhaus. The building (Pegelhaus) was constructed in the 17th century and its purpose was to measure the water levels of the Rhine. Today it hosts a glass covered restaurant on the top floor from where you can see the waterfront as well as the fortress. We had asparagus with hollandaise sauce. The food was good but we were slightly offended by the waiter who assumed that he could keep the change as a (very genereous) tip. After lunch we visited the fortress (via cable car) where permanent and several temporary exhibitions were on. We weren't lucky with the weather but it was nice to be away from home for a day.

I visited the city once a few years back and loved it, so picturesque! Sadly, such waiters are all over the world.

  3. Koblenz looks like it is a charming city. I also find it offensive when the wait staff just assumes when they can keep the change as a tip. At the very least they should ask.

  4. Lovely photography, quite moody. The city looks quite charming. In the UK, we are used to bad weather so this would be normal for us.

  10. I can see that the weather was kind of gloomy, but Koblenz looks like a nice place for a weekend getaway. How interesting the story of the building Pegelhaus is!

  20. Beautifully moody and atmospheric photography; for some reason I adore the shot of the spray coming off the car in front of you on the road. SO perfect.
