This is the post I was meant to publish last week but I couldn't finish it on time. Let's revisit the places that I travelled to in 2016.
On New Year's Day I travelled to Bruges. I had been there before but it is such a nice place so that I don't mind revisiting it once in a while.
While I was in the area, I also went to Ghent. It was my first visit and I fell in love with this city. There are nice places to see, shop and eat at. I would say that Ghent and Antwerp are my favourite cities in Flanders.
I was so lucky to have a weekend full of sunshine in Nice. It was my first time in the south east of France and I absolutely loved it.
From Nice I took a day trip to Monaco. I had seen it many times before on TV because when I used to watch Formula One, the Monaco Grand Prix used to be my favourite track.
LA - still my favourite US city. It's always exciting to drive around the boulevards, go shopping and just enjoy.
I didn't have such a great time in Las Vegas as I had on two previous occasions. It was nice to see Mariah Carey's show at Caesars on Valentine's Day though.
I went for a weekend to London with my blogger friend Juliet. We had a nice dinner in Mayfair, saw the Vogue 100 exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery and we visited the Sky Garden.
Initially I was going to Capri by myself but when my Canadian blogger friend Tiffany decided to join me, I was really happy. We ate great food, went on a private boat tour around the island and to Positano. Overall we had such a fun time!
I think it was Tiffany's idea to visit Pompeii while we were in the area. We had a private guided tour, which lasted for four hours but went by too quickly.
We didn't stay long in Positano. We just wandered around and after a couple of hours, it was time to get back on the boat.
In May I went back to LA for ten days.
On my way to Palm Springs, I stopped at Joshua Tree. While I do love big cities, I equally love spending time in the desert, just by myself.
Palm Springs - I'm not a lying on the beach / by the pool person but for once I did it and it felt good.
The weekend in Paris... that's when I was running for my life as there was a scare while I was watching football at the Champ de Mars. Probably one of the scariest moments of 2016. After that, I have been a bit reluctant about big crowds. But life goes on!
Summer in London is always nice. I remember going to my favourite spots and catching up with Claire for brunch.
I expected a quiet weekend in Zurich but as soon as I got into the city centre, I realised that the world's largest technoparade was on. It was fun to see people's costumes and everyone was in a very merry mood. I got to catch up with my friends Irina and Björn. Good memories.
I thought about going back to LA for a third time but decided against it and headed to the East Coast instead. The last time I had been in NYC was during a super cold winter in 2015. I still have a scar from when I slipped on ice. Summers in NYC are very hot but I love it. I also got to visit One World Trade Center, which was one of the highlights.
From New York I flew to Toronto which had been on my travel list ever since I had been following Tiffany's blog. It was great to see all the places that she goes to for real. I really appreciated the fact that she took the time to show me around. We made great memories. I can't wait to travel with her this summer!
I hadn't been to Milan for about two years, so it was time to pay a visit to Italy's most stylish city. I had a superb dining experience at VUN and I got to catch up with my friend Giovanna.
I wanted to go on another long distance trip but as I had been to the American continent three times already, I thought that it was time to travel to Asia for a change. I had never been to Singapore and this is why I picked this destination. It was more a case of checking it off my list. I did have a pleasant time but it was not as amazing as Kuala Lumpur.
The flight from Singapore to KL only took about an hour or so. As soon as I landed I knew that this place was different. I enjoyed every minute of my stay and it was great to be shown around by a local, my friend Sri, who I knew from my uni days in London. There are places that I visit and I know that I will most likely not go back again but with KL it's different. I shall be back for sure!
New Year's eve in London... I went on a romantic rooftop dinner date and it was the best weekend of the entire year!
2016 was tough on many levels. How can your life be tough when you're always travelling and out having fun? Well, I went through many very unpleasant experiences related to work, family, love life. One thing I did though was to always believe that eventually it would all be fine... and now it is.
I'm grateful for everything that life has given me. Very grateful to still be in touch with people that I have known since childhood, secondary school, uni, through work, blogging. Travelling and material stuff aside; what really matters is how we relate to others. It's true when they say that some people will come into our lives for a reason, for a season or for a lifetime.
