Last night I had dinner at Shisen Hanten, a Chinese restaurant, located on the 35th floor of the Mandarin Orchard. I had quite high expectations because the restaurant has been awarded two Michelin stars.
The setting was fairly impressive and the food was good. I had fried prawns that came with a slight touch of batter and mayonnaise. I ordered the extra sticky rice because I am not that great at eating with chopsticks.
At the beginning the service was top, at some point I even had three waitresses looking after me. I guess it was after I had finished my main course that it went downhill. No one checked if I needed something else. Eventually I stacked up all the dishes to signal that I was done.
I did decide to have the mango pudding for dessert. What I didn't like though was the fact that it was served in a very cold container, which gave the impression that it had not been freshly prepared.
What I also found surprising was that they couldn't charge my card from the table. I had to walk to the cashier to enter my pin. Something that I could have ignored but couldn't help noticing was that some customers were wearing trainers (sneakers) and some even Birkenstocks...
I find it hard to believe that Shisen Hanten has not only one but two(!) Michelin stars. The food was good but not exceptional. Insert clueless smiley here.
