Barbie | Paris

As promised, I'm sharing a more cheerful post with you today. On Sunday I visited the Barbie exhibition at the Musée des Arts décoratifs. I thought it would be a good way to forget about the terrible event of the previous night

The exhibition brought back lots of childhood memories for me. I used to have several Barbies, two Kens, Skipper (Barbie's sister), two houses (one was like the one above), a car, an RV, a swimming pool, a toilet (lol), a bathtub, horses and more things that I have probably forgotten about.

The exhibition covered the history behind Barbie, the product, and how the doll has turned into a personality over the years. Hundreds of Barbies were on display, showing how her body has evolved over the years, her jobs, her outfits and the different characters that she hangs out with.

It was also fascinating to see the impact Barbie has had on fashion and popular culture and vice versa.

The entire exhibition is great fun for children and for adults. A true visual feast. It was really nice to dive into this dream world and reminisce life when it was carefree.

The exhibition is on until 18 September 2016.

  2. Oh wow, if I find myself in Paris between now and September I'll be sure to check out this exhibition - what a dream! The tiny clothing is inducing serious nostalgia haha, I can see why it all reminded of you past Barbie collections :)

  3. Funnily enough, I never owned Barbie dolls while growing up. All I had were Pokemon and dinosaur figurines to play with haha, but I have learnt a lot about Mattel and Barbie's history as I had grown into the generation of social media. These photos are lovely, Anouk!

  6. That is one exhibition that I would love to see! You are right, it was very good to go, that distracts a bit from the traumatizing experience you had. I love Barbies, I still have some and houses, I even used to sew by hand for them, learning :) Such a sweet post and exhibition!

  13. Oh what a wonderful exhibition! I was more of a power rangers girl (haha), but this shows so much of the history and the evolution of the doll, it really is enticing. I love all the new outfits, or "characters", rather they have introduced over the years that makes me appreciate it even more. :)

  16. It's nice that this exhibition helped get your mind off the previous night. I didn't have a Barbie growing up and I think that is one reason why dolls fascinate me so nowadays.

Yes - you can say that again - reminiscing when life was carefree. I used to have a Barbie hair salon and I thought it was the best thing ever!

  25. This would have been a fun exhibit to see., and definitely light-hearted. Barbie also has a Twitter account, and sometimes I view them, occasionally those tweets are hilarious. My sister used to have all the Barbie cars and Barbie amenities growing up.
