Sustainable fashion

It's already two weeks since I travelled to Antwerp for the Press Days. One of the most inspiring things that I brought back was a guide from Filippa K which tells you how to maintain your wardrobe so that it lasts, while also respecting the environment.

They have initiatives which allow their customers to rent (instead of buying) their clothes, as well as return used clothes that they will either sell in their second hand store or give to charity.

For the past few years, I have bought the majority of my clothes with the intention of wearing them for at least two seasons. And unlike before, not discard them as soon as a button comes loose.

Here are Filippa K's tips for taking better care of our clothes:
  1. Wash at low temperature with a liquid detergent
  2. Reduce and reuse your clothes to reduce carbon, water and waste
  3. Build a long lasting wardrobe
  4. Try a laundry bag when washing fine materials
  5. Use a clothing brush to reduce pilling and add shine
  6. Remove pilling by using a sweater stone
  7. Fold your knitwear to maintain its shape
  8. Mend what you can before replacing
  9. Keep the stretch - when ironing elastane and lycra, use a damp cloth in-between
  10. Air your clothes to refresh your clothes and delay washing if possible
Read more about their initiatives here.

  11. Great garment care tips. My bf loves Fillippa K and wear their shirts. I think it's always good to be aware of what you buy, although sometimes difficult to not buy new or, solely sustainable pieces in everthing.
