Schräinerei | Differdange, Luxembourg

A couple of days ago I finally had the chance to have dinner at Schräinerei in Differdange. This restaurant is located in the same building as the 1535 creative hub that rents out spaces to artists, creators and entrepreneurs.

I have to say that I was very impressed with the service (from beginning to end), something that rarely happens in Luxembourg. The menu contained a large number of vegetarian options. Another big plus, for me, was that the staff spoke Luxembourgish. I'm proud to be multilingual but sometimes it's just nice to eat at a restaurant where they speak your mother tongue.

So, service was great, the food was very good as well - I had a goat cheese salad - except one small thing that was a bit bothersome: we had to share a large table with others, Wagamama-style, but with less space between the parties. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend Schräinerei for romantic or private dinners.

Other than that it was nice to see a restaurant in the southern part of the country packed on a weekday. If you are around, check it out but make sure to reserve beforehand.

  2. I tried this restaurant with some friends on the weekend of the 1535's opening and it was good. It's a good place to go with friends, to grab a drink and have a nice meal.

  4. Is Luxembourgish a mix of different languages or is it quite distinct? The goat's cheese salad sounds very nice

  8. I'm not usually fond of communal seating situations either but I don't mind it as much if the food and service are good and it sounds like it was at this restaurant.

  13. The food looks nice, and even better the service, which is important to me. I'm sure it is wonderful when you go to a place where they speak your mother tongue, that's always a delight. Aside from going there for romantic evening, it seems like a place I would visit, since they have quite a selection of vegetarian dishes. x

  15. It looks very yummy. Great place for vegetarians for sure. They may want to consider expanding to accommodate everyone on those special private dinner events.

  20. Luxembourgish has Germanic roots with French words. Neither Germans, nor French understand it though.

  22. I've had to share a table with others when dining out, it can be a bit strange, but I guess that's the way the seating is styled. I'm happy to hear they had a bunch of nice veggie options. Thanks for sharing!

  25. Sounds like a great little place, don't know if I'd feel completely comfortable sharing a table with strangers though, I can imagine that being a bit awkward! xx
