LA randoms

This is the final post dedicated to my recent trip to LA. I'm sharing some random photos that I took on Melrose Avenue, Beverly Hills and from Mulholland Drive. I thought it would be a good idea to juxtapose the glamourous and the rough. Capturing LA is not easy. In most cities, you go to the centre, walk around and take photos. But that's not how it works in LA. You see some of the most interesting sights whilst driving but that's not really the best moment to start snapping (although I am guilty of driving and snapchatting).

View of the Hollywood Hills West.

The WTF movie poster was everywhere.

Beverly Hills evening traffic.

I find it difficult to take good evening shots. This photo was taken from Mulholland Drive. It doesn't compare to the real experience though, which is just magical. You stand there in awe, surrounded by silence and watch the city glittering away. Have you seen David Lynch's Mulholland Drive? It is one of my favourite movies. I must have watched it six or seven times.

20 February 2016 - Rodeo Drive at 8 am. Ghost town.

I had pad thai at Bulan, a vegetarian Thai restaurant that I discovered in 2007. Love the large choice on their menu and I always enjoy eating there.

I was a bit surprised to see that the Westfield Mall at Century City is undergoing renovation. The site looked as if it had been hit by a bomb. I'm curious to see what they will create out of it next.

California dreaming.

A bit of Banksy.

View of San Fernando Valley from Mulholland.

Unlike previous times, I didn't do a lot of shopping. I only bought some basic clothes at American Apparel on Melrose. I particularly love their leggings. And I was so happy to buy another one of their Bouclé Shawl Cardigans. The last one I had bought, at the same shop a couple of years ago, got lost in Dubai last summer. A bit strange to be rebuying the same clothes since 2013.

To conclude the LA series, I'd just say that it was great to be back in my favourite US city. Unless something better comes up, I would consider returning in 12 months. Winter is actually a great time to visit because that's when it's grey and cold in Luxembourg but sunny and not too hot in California.

  2. You know, I am not very interested in ever visiting LA. Something about that city just doesn't call to me. I do however find it interesting how much contrast you can see in the city and from your lovely photos. I really want to visit San Diego and San Francisco some day though. Thank you for sharing your escapade with us. Next time, maybe you should come to Texas ;)

  3. Such a good insight on LA. Would love to stand upon Mulholland Drive just for the night view. Standing at a high point gives us a perspective and I personally enjoy that very much :) Also, vegetarian Thai food made me cry. Just came back from Thailand and as a vegetarian, all we had was fried egg with rice =='

  4. Not too hot!? Bahahaha! It felt like summer to me. 30 degrees was annoying. I was looking forward to some cold (and I packed for it too). I found the same thing about LA. It's incredibly difficult to take photos there because you can't just walk around. Parking is so difficult too. Which is a shame because I saw so many photo worthy shots driving around. The only photos and video I managed to take were of Rodeo Drive and the Walk of Fame. I took shots at the Griffith Observatory but they didn't turn out great because it was night too.

Perhaps next time we'll meet here?! ;o)

  7. You certainly did get some great shots whilst driving. I find night time shots tricky too and might cart along a tripod on my next trip!

  8. :) I meant to say, not too hot compared to the three previous times that I visited (late summer/early autumn). I hope we can meet when I visit Australia either later this year or next. Really need to make this major trip once and for all!

  9. Oh, please don't write LA off before having given at least one try. Personally I don't like SF and SD that much. Been there once and I don't have the urge to go back. Texas - yes, it's on my list for sure!

  14. Interesting that you say that, everyone I've met raves about SD. I guess if I ever wind up on the West Coast, I'll do LA just to say that I've been there (and maybe it will change my mind about it), but for some reason I am more of an East Coast gal. I do however want to visit Oregon and Washington state!

If you do venture to Texas, let me know :D
