Stanserhorn, Klewenalp & Rigi

I just got back from my trip to Switzerland, where I stayed for three nights. It felt so great to be travelling by myself; I hadn't done that since my trip to Paris in March. I don't think there has been a year where I've gone on that many trips with friends. While it's nice to have company, I also value me time. The perfect way to end my summer time off, was to go on a solo trip to Switzerland. I used Lucerne as my basis from where I visited three mountain tops. I just love going up on cable cars and trains.
STANSERHORN - The first mountain I travelled to was the Stanserhorn. I took a small wooden train in Stans and then connected to a new type of cable car "CabriO", a double deck open top car (see photo as you scroll down). I spent about an hour on the top of the mountain, had lunch there and walked around a bit.

KLEWENALP - After my visit to the Stanserhorn, I drove to Beckenried to visit the Klewenalp mountain. I caught a cable car directly to Klewenalp. Once there, I went on a little hike. I decided that hiking should become my new hobby.
***
RIGI - this mountain is known as the Queen of the Mountains. From Weggis I took a cable car and then a train to the top. I was going to do a little one hour hike back down to the cable car station when it started raining heavily. I got totally soaked and realized that if I was going to make hiking my new hobby, I needed to wear the appropriate gear.
Visiting the mountains was the highlight of my trip. In my next post I will show you pics of Lucerne and Zug.

  5. Oh my gosh, so beautiful! I think mountains are my favourite scenery. I visited Lucerne and Mt Rigi the first time I went to Europe - it was winter so snow covered and beautiful, but not as good a view as summer!

  9. So lovely to have me time while travelling. Sometimes the thing about travelling alone is not to have a really concrete plan, just walk where your heart takes you. I can see what a wonderful time you had and what beautiful sights you took in from the photos. It sure looks cold! And all the animals seem to be posing so still for you! I'm a noob but is the first animal a woodchuck?
