I need holidays!

I've travelled a lot this year but what I really need are holidays, i.e. time to relax. Lately I have felt that I was getting close to a burnout. Not good! The past months, I have consciously made efforts to reduce the pressure by saying no to creative collaborations and parties. I have also been decluttering my virtual and physical spaces. I have been saying yes to sleeping early, lying in on weekends and eating more healthily.

I can't really remember a time when I had some space to breathe; maybe last November when I went to Sweden and had taken off two weeks from work. This summer I was going to go to Dubrovnik, Dublin and Dubai. Now there has been a change of plans: one week in Portugal in August and two weeks off in September, of which one week will be spent Dubai. I will most likely be doing sightseeing when I'm away but I really also want to use the time to disconnect a bit and have some much needed Me time. What do you do to disconnect?

  3. I totally understand you. We need some time off form the usual work days to relax! I usually like to read and disconnect from all that's around me. Next week I am taking 1 week off from work, I hope that will be enough to relax a little bit!

  4. I can definitely feel the pain. It happened to me a lot in the past, above all in the period I have busy weeks at work - and business trips - AND an agenda full of events to attend... Each and every three/four weeks I try to take at least three days off, leaving work earlier and turning off my work mail. I schedule a long appointment at the beauty center - could be a massage or a pedicure - and an hairdresser appointment. I try to go to sleep early, having an herbal infusion in front of my fav old tv series, wearing pajama and a face mask. It is very recharging... but after three days this style I feel the need of a gin tonic :) It is a circle... but actually I am really looking forward to my vacations as well.
I cannot wait you to be in Dubai :) It is in my next trips list and I really would like to know cool places to visit/eat/shop!

  10. Enjoy your time unplugging. I think it's necessary, for me, I generally do it every month. I take a few extra days off to just unplug, sometimes both for personal and professional on social accounts as well. It's good to sleep well.

  11. These little changes will prove to be big on your health and life! We know you've been working so hard, so kick off your heels because you have deserved a well earned holiday to relax and lounge and I hope you get one soon. x

  12. I totally agree with you and it was like that for me last year - about trips - and then I decided that this year I would relax more. Then I told people I wouldn't use facebook much and other things. Then I started a Music College and all started again - the burn out feeling, like you said. Now I need holidays again :) I am glad that you won't go to Dublin now, so that when you go we can maybe have coffee (that is one of my "places", but this year it had to wait!) You are doing it well, I hope you feel relaxed soon - sleep early and maybe meditate, it can be good!

  13. I like the fact that you're putting yourself and what you need FIRST! So many lose touch of that. It's so important. If we did what others wanted constantly, we would never get anything else done. So good for you!

  16. I can completely relate - I've done a fair amount of travelling so far this year as well so far, though what I'm craving now is a week underneath a boiling hot sun and time to do absolutely nothing haha :)

  19. Life can definitely get to you with the combination of work stress and personal ones as well. I am glad to heard that you have been living a more healthier and less tension life style choice. I feel like I need a holiday soon too as I have been stressing over as well. Let's encourage each other and motivate one another!

  20. I literally disconnect - turn off PC and do not touch it for a day. Frankly, I don't remember what was the last time I had a holiday or even a few days off - running a business, blogging and looking after my man and the furry boy is pretty much a non-stop kind of thing.... At least, for now...

  22. Dubrovnik, ha? I love that city. Funny how all the 3 destinations you will travel to begin with a D...Dubrovnik, Dubai and Dublin.

I think you're making the right choice..when we're feeling burned out, going to sleep earlier can really help...and just setting some time for ourselves, even if it is only five minutes to close our eyes and breathe.

My way to relax is doing outdoor sports, hiking, swimming, or just walking.

  23. being able to disconnect is so important so that one can completely unwind. I turn off my phone and just go out for a walk sometimes when I want to disconnect.

  25. You had some really great destination, but I really understand how you feel. Everybody need a little time to do nothing and to relax. To be honest I can't unpacked my suitcase. When I finally wash all of the clothes from my holiday, I should pack again... It's exhausting..

  29. I'm staying in London for most of August to get a bit of a rest and I definitely want to get to bed earlier. I've also made a start on giving old clothes to charity, nice to have a bit more space in my wardrobe!

  30. So glad you are finding some time for rest and relaxation! I've been trying to do the same--to minimize not only my wardrobe, but also my space and my life! What I've been trying to do more often is to unplug and spend time away from my phone and my laptop :)

  31. Same as you do, plus do my best to read a book (not Kindle) which I used to be able to do, but haven't for the longest time. I'm not inspired by any book either. I don't go by recommendations. I go by which one calls me. I currently have at least 10 to read and I'm not strongly drawn to any of them at the moment. So, I may have to go back to my local library, which is my other way to disconnect. Enjoy your break!

  32. So envious of you, Dubai sounds amazing! Make sure to take tons of photos to share with us (:

I watch cheesy romantic movies on Netflix, and go shopping! It's probably not the most productive way to relax, I wish I were one of those people that went to the gym or something! Have fun on your break (:
