Luxembourg National Day 2014

Last year I skipped the National Day celebrations but not this one! The weather was perfect and I had a visitor from Paris staying over (we used to live at the same halls of residence in London during our studies).

I took him around Luxembourg City and showed him the best panoramic views.

On National Day we celebrate the Grand Duke's birthday and the streets and shops are decorated with flags and portraits of him and the Grand Duchess.

I had gathered a group of friends and together with my visitor we had dinner at Chiggeri.

I had a salmon tartare but I was still starving after eating it.

K's goat cheese salad looked much more filling.

As I still had room for dessert, I didn't feel guilty about eating a mousse au chocolat.

The others chose a café gourmand.

It was a good idea to have picked Chiggeri because at 11 pm we only had to step outside to see the big fireworks.

The grand finale.

We joined the street party - the largest of the year.

This morning I had to get up early as F had kindly invited me to join the Official Ceremony to celebrate the Grand Duke's birthday.

The ceremony consisted of speeches by the Prime Minister, the President of the Chamber of Deputies and the Grand Duke.

It was also the occasion where the Grand Duke gave awards for special achievements.

The ceremony was followed by a reception.

My hair is totally out of control. Should I chop it off?

F and I went to Pizza Hut for lunch. I had a goat cheese and honey pizza. The honey made it very sweet and I didn't like the taste that much. I won't pick that one again. After that I went home and slept for five hours. Tomorrow another work week starts...

I love that picture of the umbrellas! I love your hair the way it is now, but if it's bothering you, you could cut it a bit. (I know I hate having long hair in the summer, but I always get to nervous to cut it short!)

  33. How cool is your national day! I love the umbrella lined streets and all that food porn! Gahh I need something fried in oil stat. BTW re your hair, maybe just trim it, an inch or two off can make all the difference! I know with my own, once it grows to a certain length it's just unbearable.

  36. I come from a country that don't know much about what the grand duke does and so I'm pretty curious about this couple who seem like a beautiful couple. Your food looke absolutely divine. Pity that you were still hungry. The goat cheese salad certainly looks more filling. Looks like you had a whale of a time overall. I'm particularly attracted to the fireworks that exploded in hearts or was it just a heart bokeh effect? It must be really thrilling to attend the official reception.

I think you would look good with shoulder length hair or a chic chin length bob though you also look lovely with long hair.

looking through your posts all at once, it seems like you have a busier life than me when you commented on my Instagram post. Hahaha... Glad that you're having so much fun with family and friends.
