Nice surprise (Berlin Day 1)

I've been to Berlin before but only for a weekend. I have always felt that I needed to come back for longer and therefore I booked this seven day trip.

For once I got to take a flight at a humane time: 11 am. Everything went according to plan and I got to my hotel at around 1 pm. I'm very happy with the location, it's near the Brandenburger Tor on Unter den Linden / Friedrichstrasse. Even though I didn't have to get up too early, I was really tired and slept for three hours.

At around 4 pm, I ventured outside and took a walk up to the Brandenburger Tor.

I discovered the Mercedes-Benz Gallery on Unter den Linden and being a fan I had to have a look at their exhibits.

One day I would like to have an SL. For now I have to be happy with my SLK. My friend F finds Mercedes 'pretentious'. She drives an Audi TT, which is of course very modest... I like the brand because they make great cars and it's what everyone around me was driving when I was growing up: my grandfather, my grandmother, my mother, my parents, my godfather, and my godmother. Makes sense, no?

I walked down to Museumsinsel (museum island) and I was looking for a place to have a late lunch.

I found Shi-Mai, an Asian restaurant.

I had prawn rolls and prawn chow mein.

I was thinking of walking back to the hotel and get an early night, in order to recover from the nights out of the previous weeks (!) but my plan was disrupted when all of a sudden I got messages from my friend D. He had seen my Facebook update about being in Berlin and it turned out that he was here as well.

(D used to sit next to each other in secondary school and we have kept in touch on and off over the past few years. The last time we met was when we went together to the Beady Eye concert in February).

We went for a drink at Vaporetto... before we knew it, we had drunk two and a half bottles of white wine. We shared many funny stories from our school days and exchanged dating tips.

We had a late night dinner at Die Berliner Republik.

We ordered two Flammkuchen and fries. They were incredible and I am thinking of going back for another one. D ordered more wine for us but at that stage, I had to pass.

We finally said goodbye and agreed to meet for brunch the next day.

  3. It's great that you are in Berlin! I was there in November for half a day but seeing your photos I recognised a lot of places! Also, you took great shots! And it is a pleasant when you meet an old friend abroad for sure. It's like a reunion and it's even nicer in another country. The car exhibition must have been very interesting to you! The food looks deliscious as well.

  5. Ahhh...love Berlin. It's great you're taking a longer break this time. Was there for only 3 nights and there was so much to take in for a first-timer. This is a reminder to revisit. I missed the Museum Island the last time. Looking forward to Day 2 :)

  7. Oh nice photos! I also remember the places you've mentioned. I was also in berlin, two times. I love the dunkin donuts in every corner, hihi. And the figures in front of the brandenburger tor, you saw them, didn't you? The people who costumize themselves to earn money on the street, they're too nice! :)
    Lots of love, jenni

  10. Seems like Mercedez has been a foly brand since generations ago. There's nothing wrong owning a car you like. As long as you love it and can affords maintaining it. Who is there to say about being pretentious? lol everyone is entitled to their own opinion ;) have fun in Berlin!!

  19. Berlin looks beautiful! Audi, modest? I wouldn't call it modest since it's quite pricy in my opinion. I'd call a Toyota or Honda modest, but that's my opinion XD;

What kind of dating tips did you guys exchange? I probably need to study some dating tips myself.
