Jesus Christ

After a very lazy first day in Rio, I got my act together and started seeing the sights. The first ultimate tourist attraction that I went to was the Christ the Redeemer statue. The statue itself is as impressive as the view that you get from the top of the mountain it stands on.

Some visitors were not afraid of heights...

I didn't stay too long up there because it was incredibly hot.

Back in Copacabana I decided to take the metro to the city centre and explore that part.

The centre has a very different feel than the beachside. There are many more people and you can feel the rush.

I was looking for a place to have a late lunch. Not knowing any particular restaurant, my instinct was to go to McDonald's but that would have been too unadventurous. So I went to a local buffet where you pay per weight. My parents, the ultimate food snobs, would never ever have set foot in this place, that's for sure. Well, it wasn't too bad, especially not for 10 Reales (like 3 Euro). I wouldn't necessarily return though if I can find something better next time.

I walked past this amazing pâtisserie. If I get the chance, I will stop by in a couple of days.

  9. Wow Rio is so diverse! First of all: If any statue could make me religious it probably would be this one :D (Raise your hand if you loved that scene in Fast & Furious 5) and secondly: I didn't know Rio had skyscrapers and everything! Looks like I'll have to check that city out!

  14. It's really impressive to see the contrasts in this city! Skyscrapers and cute traditional buildings simply coexist. Also did you know that there is a similar statue in Lisbon?
