Finally I have managed to escape the cold and I am now in Rio de Janeiro where the sun is shining and the heat is on. But first let's rewind and travel here together.
On Friday evening I had a nice meal with a couple of friends at Café bei der Giedel. We didn't stay out too late but I only managed to get up at 11 am on Saturday. I really wasn't in the mood for travelling. It was raining in Luxembourg and all I was looking forward to was the stopover in Paris where I was going to meet friends for dinner.
As we were approaching Paris, the weather looked really promising. But not for long.
It was also cold and rainy in the city centre. My friends had suggested to go for Indian food in rue Cail near the Gare du Nord. I had never been to this area and it reminded me a lot of Aldgate East in London. We had just enough time to have dinner and share a few laughs and then I headed back to the airport to catch my flight to Brazil.
After 11 hours I landed in sunny Rio.
On my way to the hotel, the cab driver pointed out the area where the Carnival is going to take place in a couple of weeks.
The tall building is my hotel, where I got a room on the 16th floor. As you can see, it is right at the beach in Copacabana.
Those who have been reading my blog for a long time, might have noticed that I am not really a beach person. I love travelling to big cities but getting grilled under the sun all day long is really not my thing.
So why did you travel to Rio and book a hotel right next to the beach? Well, I thought that maybe it would make me appreciate something that I never have and I would enjoy it. But by just hanging out there for ten minutes, I knew that I would have to find other things to do during this week.
I also felt very out of place as I was wearing a dress and not a bikini. I just snapped some pics and left.
I tried to familiarize myself with the area and I was glad to find nearby supermarkets, restaurants and pharmacies. There is also a metro station not too far away and my plan is to explore different areas of the city.
I had a nice mango juice (I was very impressed) and tuna sandwich at a corner juice bar.
So I really hope that this week is going to go by smoothly and that I don't run into trouble! More updates to come.
