San Luis Obispo, Madonna Inn & Hearst Castle (California Day 5 and 6)

On Wednesday morning I left Bakersfield and continued my road trip west to San Luis Obispo, also known as SLO.

In case you wonder how I ended up in San Luis Obispo: I had seen an episode of The Girls Next Door (a reality show about Hugh Hefner's girlfriends at the Playboy Mansion), where the girls visit this city and the hotel that I was going to stay at. It had somehow stuck in my mind.

Is anyone of you going to watch the second Hunger Games film? I agreed with my sister to go together when I'm back home.

If you ever visit SLO, you will probably stop by bubblegum alley. It's pretty gross but fascinating at the same time.

As said before, I had seen the Madonna Inn hotel on TV and loved the idea of 110 different theme rooms. I wasn't able to choose any particular room when I was booking but I was positively surprised when I was given the Star Light room.

A very different experience from the usual but not that cosy.

I was very pleased with the Japanese toilet though!

And the complimentary cookies were a nice welcome gift that I couldn't refuse.

The next day, after breakfast, I set off for San Simeon to visit the magnificent Hearst Castle that I had seen on a blog I follow named The Style and Travel Journals.

Hearst Castle is a stunning place with a remarkable history. What inspires me most is how a vision (way beyond most people's imagination) was turned into reality. It confirms the saying, "whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve" (Napoleon Hill).

And full of hopes and dreams I drove down to Santa Barbara with the sun setting by my side.

I had again underestimated the time and distances and only made it to Santa Barbara late in the evening. But I will share photos of it in my next post for sure!
