Bangkok food experience

Magnum Cafe at Siam Center

Let's start with the most delicious "meal" I had: a Birthday boum at Magnum Cafe. It's a strawberry pavlova with vanilla Magnum ice cream. The waiter served it by releasing a noisy sweet confetti cracker to sprinkle the dessert, hence the "boum".

Food Republic at Siam Center

I love food courts. Maybe because we don't have any in Luxembourg. Of course it took me ages to decide on a stand at Siam Center's Food Republic. In the end I got a spicy prawn curry with rice and a mango lassi. The drink was too sweet but the curry tasted fantastic.

Mr. Jones' Orphanage at Siam Center

Don't let yourself be seduced by the cute teddy bears hanging all over the ceiling; the place looks really good but my dry Oreo Pizza (oreos in a meringue sandwich) and the very sugary strawberry smoothie were both a disappointment.

Fuji at Siam Paragon

A very busy Japanese restaurant with a nice setting and good food. I had a wakame salad, prawn tempura and tuna maki. The only thing that irked me was that the rice in the maki rolls was warm.

Viva Garden Residence room service

When I arrived at my hotel I was tired and didn't want to go out for dinner so I ordered room service. I like Pad Thai and I truly enjoyed this one.

Phan Khom at Central World Plaza

The moment I sat down, I knew that it had been a bad choice. The waiting staff was the most unenthusiastic I've ever experienced. And when you serve the main course before the starter, no, really. I had Pad Thai (again) which was good but that was the only positive about this restaurant. Also I can't stand it when waiters are looking at you while you eat. Just not pleasant.

Erawan Tea Room (Grand Hyatt)

I ordered two dishes when one would have been enough. I had fried tofu with cashew nuts and a vegetable curry. I stumbled upon this place by coincidence and I was very impressed by the nice setting and the selection on the menu. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I also confess that I ate at McDonald's a couple of times. I only ever do that in desperate situations: I am starving and there is no better option around. Whilst some advised that I try the street food, I just could not bring myself to do it.

  7. Hi Anouka! I dont remember if I've told you yet but Thai food is my fav one, my wish is infact visit Thailand and make a food tour:) I'm sorry you have been disappointed by some of these dishes, though everything looks very delicious, especially the Oreo Pizza, I can imagine how sad is when an inviting plate tastes different from what appears! Have a great day and enjoy NY! Kisses dear! xo

  15. It is absolutely annoying when someone is starring at you while eating (or doing anything in that matter!) I'm glad at least you had a few good experience at the food court though! I grew up around food court! In Australia after school that's where we go for snacks! It can be really good or really bad just depends on who the vendors are!
Hope you are enjoying NYC :)

It's so funny you mentioned food courts. They're literally everywhere here..but I even met a German guy before who told me he thought they're really cool because they don't have them there lol. For us it's like the least exciting place to eat!

  35. You can't go to Bangkok and not eat street food. Hopping from shopping mall eateries to McD's doesn't give you a real feel for the thousands of amazing meals you can get (for less than $5) in Bangkok.

  36. I too would choose Macdonalds over dodgy street food when overseas. Don't want to end up sick while travelling!

  39. all this food looks really cool and tasty! I know what you mean about the waitress staring at you when you eat. It makes me feel quite uncomfortable to the point where I just don't finish my food and leave or stuff all the food in my face so I can go hehe.
Mac D is a safe option! I am a vegetarian and sometimes street food scares me when!
