Cacti repotting - a spikey affair

Cacti repotting had been on my to do list for quite a while. Six small and nine mini cacti had to be given a new space.

As you can see the original plastic pots had become too small for the growing plants.

I had found herb containers at IKEA that were going to host the new larger clay pots.

And I used special cacti soil.

This is a before photo of the six small cacti. An easy trick to remove the watering stains at the bottom of the pots was to soak them in a mix of warm water and vinegar.

This is the after photo.

These mini cacti that my mum had given me in November also needed a bigger home.

I put six of them into the vacated white pots.

The remaining three were grouped together into one larger pot. I am a little bit worried about the top left mini cactus. It doesn't look very healthy but I hope that the new space will help its recovery.

I love cacti! Even though they might hurt and are mainly green, they seem so cute. I will definitely decorate my future home with them!

  11. You are such a beautiful person Anouka. Your cacti collection is so sweet and I love that you take care of them so well. How does one transfer them from one pot to another anyway? I imagine you must wear special gloves for handling them.

    1. Yes, that's the tricky part :) Kitchen mitts can help but don't fully protect from long spikes. Spaghetti tongs can be used too but carefully so as not to damage the plant. It's a delicate task but luckily it doesn't have to be done too often. xo

  42. I had such a bad experience with Cactus when I was really small... 1 of them looked soft so I touched it then scratched my nose accidentally and all the 'soft' spikes had gone in my skin!!! since then I haven't had cactus at home but I really love the big ones and think they look so pretty :)
